1 Filter, 1 Family: Ideas for Getting Started

There are plenty of creative ways the member families of your organization can participate in doing justice. Contributing a HydrAid™ filter can be easy if we think about how we can love others as much as we love ourselves. Below are just a few ideas to help get started:

• “Fast” from your coffee, bottled water, or soda for a month. This is the kind of “fast” God has chosen, to loosen the chains of the oppressed. Contribute your savings toward a filter.
• Make it a “night in.” Cook dinner at home and rent a movie instead; use the money saved to purchase a filter.
• Raise funds as a group. Have a bake sale or car wash.
• Hold a special church offering.
• Have special collection bins stationed in your building.
• Match your monthly water bill. Love your neighbor as yourself and match your household water expense for one month to provide a needy family water for life.
• Organize a “lock-in” or “family fun” night. Dedicate proceeds for admission, etc. toward a filter donation.
• Hold a contest. Rally your small-groups and compete to see who can raise the most toward the campaign.
• Save the change. Every time you get change from a purchase, save it toward a filter. While we spend dollars on ourselves, we can at least spare the change for others.
• Bring your lunch to work/school. Save the difference toward a filter.
• Hold a yard sale/sell something on Craig’s List/Ebay. Donate the proceeds.
• Create and sell your own bottled water or water bottles. Donate the profits.
• Spread the news. Pass the website along to friends and family to donate as well.
• Pray. Pray for those in need and how you can make a difference in many lives.
